| His Grace Henry Luke Orombi at the rededication of St. Peter's Cathedral, Hoima, 2012. |
You are warmly welcome to this blog site. It is intended for the appreciation of the outgoing Archbishop of the Church of the Province of Uganda, a branch of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
His Grace Henry Luke Orombi has been exemplary in his leadership, is much loved by those he leads and his leadership in this position will be missed by many. At this blog spot, we seek your assistance in telling the story of his ministry through your experience of him.
Here are three questions to guide your responses:
1. What do you remember about His Grace Henry Orombi?
2. How has he impacted your life?
3. What would you like to tell him at his retirement?
Kindly keep the total number of words to 200 or fewer. Please note that these are messages of appreciation for a ministry well-done. Our hope is to produce a booklet including these responses that will be presented to His Grace Orombi at his retirement in mid-December 2012. In order to accomplish this date, we have set the cut off date for responses at October 30, 2012.
Thank you and may God bless you and yours.

ReplyDeleteI will always remember the first time I met Bishop Henry Luke Orombi (HLO) at a youth camp in Bweranyangi-Western Uganda in December 1997. I was lined up with him and a few other men and women of God as conference speakers. He was ‘towering’ in stature and spiritual authority. Very intimidating indeed! One morning I prayed that he (HLO) should leave the chapel after his talk since I was supposed to speak in the session following his. The answer to my prayer was that when he gathered that I was the next speaker, he chose to stay so that he could listen to me! The long and short of the story is that after my message, he reached for the microphone (uninvited) and to my utter bewilderment; he affirmed me and spoke very powerful prophetic words into my life. Later that day, he prayed for my wife Florence, our little daughter Marjorie and I. The rest is history; we have never been the same again!
ReplyDeleteHLO is a prayerful man who walks in step with the Holy Spirit. He respects systems and traditions but they do not bind him. It will always be remembered that he appointed me the first Lay Chaplain to the Archbishop in the history of the Church of the Province of Uganda, much to the disappointment of many people. Yet, it seems there was more to that than what meets the eye. Seven years down the road, I am an Ordained Minister in the Anglican Church, something I hitherto hated with a passion (before I met HLO).
I have greatly benefitted from my close interaction with Archbishop Henry. He has taken me literally to every Archdeaconry in the Province of the CoU and he has also given me enough international exposure. I will forever be grateful to God for causing me to cross the path of The Most Rev. Henry Luke Orombi.
Archbishop Henry will be remembered for his love and passion for young people, his 'contagious' smile, his special oratory ability as an evangelist, his humility, his love for his wife Mama Phoebe, his time management, his nationalistic mind of team building (e.g. his private Secretary is a Munyoro, his driver a Muganda, his Provincial Secretary a Mukiga, Provincial Treasurer a Lango, his Chaplain-a Mukiga). These form the core team of senior staff. The only fellow Alur of his is the Education Coordinator who obviously came on board meritoriously.
Archbishop Henry, you have retired from office work early so as to preach the Gospel. Therefore, as Joyce Meyer says, "The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing."

APPRECIATION – ARCHBISHOP OROMBI
ReplyDeleteMy great grandparents were pioneer missionaries to Hawaii. Today I owe my place in the Kingdom of God to a land that in their day was considered a mission field.
Where would Apostles Anglican Church be today were it not for the Church of Uganda? When our church affiliation became impossible you took us in, you gave us a home, you nurtured us, and you helped birth the Anglican Church in North America.
Your Grace’s two visits were landmark events in the life of our church. You made us feel a part of the Anglican Communion, and gave us insight into where you stood with the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Your Grace’s two visits were landmark events in my life. I was one of those you prayed with at our church. I have no idea what I told you, though I know it was brief. But I have never forgotten your prophetic word to me: “You have a work to do, and you cannot go home until you have done it.” It was a couple of years before I sensed what God was telling me, but I shall soon be sending you a copy of my book, CAPTURED, an atheist’s journey with God.
I remember vividly your visit with the staff on your second visit. It impressed me that you never go anywhere without taking some young person with you. That you follow Jesus’ method of calling His disciples to be with Him.
Through my good friend, Medine Keener, I also have a less formal glimpse of you as “Helen’s Dad.”
I am grateful to God that our paths have crossed.

I consider myself very honoured to have come to know His Grace Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi, way back in the early 1990's when he was Archdeacon of Goli, in Nebbi before becoming Bishop in 1993. His wife Mama phoebe is an amazing kingdom servant,an inspiring mother and a hands-on person when it comes to getting things done.
ReplyDeleteArchbishop Orombi's love for our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ, his passion for the lost to receive and follow Christ ,the humility, boldness and the selflessness with which he goes about mission and ministry are incredibly inspirational. His Grace believes in empowering others especially the young people . Thank you Your Grace for availing yourself for God's service in the way you have over the last four decades. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Amen!!
I was privileged to listen to Him in Bweranyangi where He boldly spoke against homosexuality. As a young Girl in o'level who had just been in boarding school a short time, I got alert to this around me. This has guided my walk all through life and more than 10 years ago, I remember looking at Him and wishing He would be the one to wed me when the time came. I watched to make sure I was ending up with a man as he had guided me at that young age. His zeal for young people to walk with Christ still amazes me to this date.
